The role of oxygen detectors in detecting the hazards of oxygen deficiency or enrichment

2025-01-17

Oxygen is an essential gas for our survival. Normally, the concentration of oxygen is normal, but in some enclosed environments with poor ventilation, there may be situations of oxygen enrichment or hypoxia. When the oxygen content exceeds the normal concentration we accept, accidents can occur once a person is in such an environment.

Let's first talk about the harm of oxygen enrichment to the human body?

The most direct impact of oxygen enrichment on human health is its effect on free radicals. Free radicals play a crucial role in our body, and it can be said that without them, our lives cannot continue for a moment. And when we are in an oxygen rich environment, the free radicals that are crucial to us will be affected by it. The changes in free radicals not only affect our oxidative reaction ability, but also cause damage to nucleic acid substances, our proteins, and lipids. And in an oxygen rich environment, the concentration of oxygen is very high. Once a fire, combustion or explosion accident occurs in such an environment, its harm is much greater than that in a normal oxygen environment.

So what are the damages to the human body in an oxygen deficient environment?

Hypoxia can cause changes in the body's functions, metabolism, and morphology. In an environment of hypoxia, the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, liver, kidney, and tissue cells of the human body are all affected. Long term living in an environment of hypoxia can cause irreversible damage to brain tissue. Moderate hypoxia can lead to mental symptoms such as fatigue, apathy, drowsiness, and incoherent speech. When hypoxia worsens, it can cause brain edema, increased intracranial pressure, and even brain cell death.

So whether it's negative oxygen or lack of oxygen in a space, it's unsafe. This situation usually occurs in limited and enclosed spaces with poor ventilation and poor air circulation. Before entering, it is necessary to use an oxygen detector to effectively detect the oxygen concentration in the space. If the oxygen concentration in the space is oxygen rich or oxygen deficient, the oxygen gas leak alarm will emit an audible and visual alarm signal, reminding the on-site staff to give timely warning and make correct handling of the situation, such as ventilating the air in the space.

The oxygen detector is an essential safety instrument for safety preparation before entering a confined space. Safety production cannot be achieved without the assistance and cooperation of safety instruments. It is also hoped that on-site staff can improve their safety vigilance and not trust their experience too much.
